Five-years plans

The total added capacity reached 27,401 MW of thermal plants for the unified network, at an investment cost of 17 billion US dollars. It was implemented through the electricity sector by obtaining soft loans from Arab and international financing bodies.
The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company has conducted a study to determine the generation capacities required to be added during the five-year plan to cover the expected loads to meet the needs of the various state sectors and provide an appropriate reserve from the eighth plan (2017-2022) generation capacities to face the programmed maintenance work, emergency exit and unit problems as a result of obsolescence. The study resulted in the absence of the need to add new thermal generation capacities in the plan (2017-2022).
In light of the multiple scenarios of load and energy growth, a methodology has been prepared for future generation project plans corresponding to load scenarios, as follows:
First priority projects:
Luxor installed power plant project with a capacity of 2250 MW and will be implemented by ACWA Power with a system (BOO). The first 750 MW module is planned to enter in December 2023 and the last 1500 MW module in July 2024.
The pumping and storage station project with a capacity of 2400 MW in Jabal Ataqa in Suez with the system (EPC+ Finance) at an initial cost of $ 2.7 billion.
Second priority projects:
In light of the low prices of new and renewable energies, coordination was made with the investor of the Oyoun Moussa (Coal) project to replace the project with two new and renewable energy projects (wind solar) with a capacity of 750 MW with a system (BOO) The final position for the implementation of a thermal power plant project powered by clean coal with a capacity of (6 * 1000) MW in Hamraween in the Red Sea with the system (EPC+ Finance) or part thereof will be determined according to the development of expected future loads A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will be signed between the investor and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for the projects that The final status of the implementation of the aforementioned projects will be determined after reviewing the strategy prepared by TARES in light of the decline in new and renewable energy prices and in light of the evolution of expected future loads.
