Dr. Mahmoud Esmat: We are keen to attract new investments to benefit from modern technologies in research, development, and renewable energy. We aim to enhance energy sustainability and provide clean and safe energy solutions to improve electricity supply quality and ensure continuity of power. As part of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy’s strategy to maximize the use of modern technologies and innovative solutions in various fields, and to enhance the energy system and the role of new and renewable energies in the energy mix, as well as the transition towards green energy and the optimal management and investment in these resources to boost energy sustainability, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, witnessed the signing ceremony of several joint agreements with the French side in the fields of electricity and renewable energy. This took place on the sidelines of French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Egypt.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, along with Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Rémy Rioux, Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD), signed a financing agreement for the Alexandria Regional Control Center Project. The signing was attended by Ms. Angela Eichhorst, Ambassador of the European Union to Egypt.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat and Mr. Éric Lombard, French Minister of Economy, Finance, Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, also witnessed the signing of the contract for the construction and implementation of the Electrical Control and Distribution Center in Sharm El-Sheikh, which will be executed by Schneider Electric. The agreement was signed by Eng. Gaber Desouky, Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, Mr. Sébastien Rieh, Head of North Africa, Egypt, and the Levant Cluster at Schneider Electric, and Mr. Pierre Grosgerga, Vice President of the DCC Program at Schneider Electric.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, and Ms. Angela Eichhorst also witnessed the signing ceremony of the Alexandria Regional Control Center implementation agreement, signed by Eng. Mona Rizk, Chairwoman of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

In a related context, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, in the presence of General Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development Affairs and Minister of Transport and Industry, and Mr. Éric Lombard, witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement to develop the Green Ammonia Production Project in the Red Sea. This agreement was signed between the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), EDF Renewables, Zero Waste Company, and the Red Sea Ports Authority. The agreement was signed by Eng. Ihab Ismail, CEO of NREA, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Rahim Hamed, Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Authority, and Ms. Béatrice Buffon, Executive Vice Chairwoman and President of EDF Renewables.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat praised the depth of the relationship, cooperation, and partnership between Egypt and France in various fields, affirming that the agreements signed represent a continuation of joint efforts and the implementation of sustainable projects aimed at achieving comprehensive development goals and increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix as part of the national energy strategy.

He also highlighted the goal of improving energy efficiency across all sectors and emphasized the commitment to cooperate with the French side and attract more French companies to invest, particularly in clean energy, electrical grid development, and green hydrogen. He praised French companies and emphasized the sector’s focus on attracting and encouraging both local and foreign private investment.

Finally, he referred to the strong cooperation with the French Development Agency, which has extended over many years and played a vital role in supporting sustainable development efforts, strengthening strategic sectors, and boosting economic growth in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
